I had never heard anyone question if our memories would be erased at any point in the end times before. But a quick internet search revealed this is a common question. The scripture that is referenced is Isaiah 65:17 which says “I will create a new heaven and new earth and the former things will not be remembered….”
At face value I can see why people might think that their memories are erased, but in the context of the passage Isaiah is writing about God creating a new environment. One that isn’t filled with sorrow and pain, but filled with joy. The way that I’ve read commentators teach on this passage is much like saying “time heals all wounds”. The time will pass, the memories will fade. The life that you’re now living is so good you will no longer be concerned about whatever may have happened in the past and there are no reminders surrounding you that would continue to bring up the old wounds. Your life is really really good!
There is nothing in scripture that suggests our memories are erased or that humanity is restarted. In fact the story of Lazarus and the rich man shows us that we do remember. (Luke 16:19-31)
