Empty. [Lent Day 15]

Wow, today has just been a struggle to come up with a launching point. I’ve been thinking about prayer, and about patience, and about a couple of other subjects that have already been touched upon– which leaves me feeling a little empty. Empty it is!

Sometimes that’s just how we feel. Jesus had to experience that many times as friends and followers walked away. As family members were pushing their own agendas.

I can’t begin to imagine the emptiness Jesus felt as He prayed in the garden and His faithful followers; the guys He had just shared Passover supper with, whose feet had washed, they slept oblivious to His hour of greatest need. That is empty!

Another way to think of emptying is like reorganizing a closet. It is that process of emptying everything out so you can neaten, tidy, reorganize and be able to find things or store more things, or in a better way. It’s just amazing how much space you can find when you declutter or reorganize!

The same principle holds true for our spiritual lives. We can be filled with so much more important knowledge and experience all of which can be used to help other people and honor God when to take the time to empty everything else that is filling us out. For me this is a large part of my Lent experience! Emptying. Ridding out. Moving things around or getting rid of them so that there is more room for better things.

So go for it! Drain that glass or jar and let it be a reminder to purge some clutter from your life so you can make more room for God.
