I love it when a plan comes together! We step right into a worship moment this week as most of the country will be giving thanks tomorrow, or at least thinking about turkey and pumpkin pie.
Why do I see this a worship moment?
Ruth 3
That is a fine question you ask. When I meditate on Ruth 3, the theme that stands out to me is the kinsman-redeemer, Boaz.
Rather than talk about Boaz this specific man today I thought it would be good to look at who he represents in our lives today, over 3,000 years later.
The responsibility of a kinsman redeemer is to rescue or protect a family member who is in trouble or in need for some reason. In the case of Ruth 3, the people in need were Ruth and Naomi. They were widowed and needed the ongoing care.
Redeem:
- to buy back (repurchase)
- to free from distress or harm.
- to change for the better.
- repair or restore
- to free from the obligation of a lien.
- to atone for
Lessons
Are you beginning to see why this is a glorious reminder of all that we have to be grateful for? Not quite tracking with me yet?
Jesus Christ is the kinsman-redeemer, first to the Jew and then to all who call on His name.
Jesus purchased our sins and debt with His blood.
Jesus set us free.
Jesus is transforming our lives as we seek, follow, and obey Him.
Jesus repairs and restores the brokenness that sin and selfishness have damaged.
Jesus said “It is finished.” and that once and for all payment set us free from the obligation of paying for our own sin.
And Jesus made atonement for our lives.
challenge
No better time than this week to reflect on the fact that we are redeemed by our Redeemer.
Thank HIM.
No better time than this week to share Him with others.
Share HIM.
