Hi.
I hope you experience overwhelming awe in reading God’s word from time to time that was me with Proverbs 30-31 this week.
God is infinite.
He is both magnificent and accessible at the same time.
Proverbs 30:2-5
Let’s begin with verse 4 and compare the questions God inspired in Agar and the answers that He inspired in me.
Agar: Who has gone up and down?
Lisa: I know ONE who has gone up and down. His name is Jesus. (John 3:13)
Agar: Who has gathered the wind in his hands?
Who has gathered the waters in his cloak?
Lisa: Maybe the same ONE who can control the winds and the seas? (Mark 4:41)
Agar: Who established the ends of the earth?
Lisa: The LORD created the ends of the earth. (Isaiah 40:28)
Agar: What is His Name?
Lisa: I Am. (Exodus 3:13-14)
The Lord God Almighty (Jeremiah 31:35)
Agar: And the name of His Son?
Lisa: His name is Jesus. (Philippians 2:9-10)
Lessons
After being drawn in by the Flawless Lord God Almighty, I can better appreciate verse 2 and have to say, “I agree!” Like this writer, when I try to comprehend the magnitude of the One who established the ends of the earth I simply can not grasp Him.
Even though our finite wisdom is growing, on God’s scale or in comparison to the infinate, our knowledge doesn’t even register. Does that make sense? It’s like a two year old lifting with the super heavy weight world class power lifters. The little one will probably be stronger in another couple of months, but the strength he gains doesn’t register because the plates on the bar are too big for him to lift.
So where does this leave us? In despair in being ignorant or lacking in wisdom? Of course NOT!
God loves us.
He shields us.
Because of that, HE is the One with whom we can take refuge.”

How do we take refuge in Him?
How do we take refuge in any place or person of safety? Pastor Josh talked last week about how his girls jump up into his arms because they trust him. He has proven himself trustworthy emotionally and physically. To the point that they now can make a conscious decision to hurl themselves toward him. Sounds reckless unless you have built a foundation of trust.
Likewise, this is how we can take refuge in God.
We build a foundation of trust that is physical when we choose to bow in worship, when we take the time to read His words.
We build upon that trust intellectually, when we deem His words to be flawless and our curiosity and thirst for Him grows. We discover more about who He is and how He has planned a great life for us.
Our trust is strengthened when all that we experience in Him moves our emotions to awe, wonder, and action.
Our trust is solidified spiritually when our actions are motivated to obey and honor God.
That kind of trust will “recklessly” hurl itself under the protection of God.
